When it comes to taking family photographs most people want photos of their children; that’s no surprise to anyone! What many might not realize, though, is the distinct differences of the way we had our photos taken versus the way we are documenting the lives of the current generation.
Does anyone here have old family albums; you know, the crinkly 4x6 ones, the terribly developed drugstore ones? They are so fun to look through, right?! How about laundry baskets full of the packages of 4x6 photos that were never put in albums? Any 11x14 prints hanging out at your parents or grandparents house…the ones that are so JC Penny cringe worthy but you love seeing them? Photos are how we remember. You can see a photo of you with family, at the zoo, at your birthday, and it instantly brings back the best memories!
Now, think about how the current generations are being photographed…with phones. It’s rare to see photo albums anywhere. It’s rare to print photos, give or a take the few you may have in frames. What the current young generations will be missing out on is the opportunity to look back on their printed photos. Those Instagram and Facebook posts won’t last forever. Have you ever considered what would happen if suddenly there was a tech issue? Everything you posted would be lost forever.
That is why I believe in creating printed photographs. Albums and Folio boxes are the perfect ways to document your child’s life and gift them the memories of their childhood. Not only is it beneficial to them in the future, but it is also helping them develop right now more than you think. When children see printed photos of themselves they feel a sense of belonging, a sense or true identity. They walk through their houses and hallways and see that they belong. They can sift through photos and look at themselves, smiling and laughing with people they love.
There are so many good reasons to have your family and children photographed, but make sure that the photographs exist outside of a digital format. When you schedule photographs with me you get the best of both worlds; I provide printed photos and also the digital of whatever you choose to purchase! You get to come to the studio several weeks after your session and physically look through the photos of your family and choose the ones you would like to exist forever in your household.
Create the gift of printed memories for your children this season!
